BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey has heaped praise on the unsung heroes of his playing and coaching team after the Robins secured a 1-0 away win at Wantage Town on Saturday.

The win, which came courtesy of a Dean Griffiths goal (see report inside), is Town’s fifth win on the road so far this season – and the manager says his side have blown away their early season expectations.

He said: “We were without Tom Knighton and Dave O’Hare on Saturday, our two top scorers, and down to bare bones – so I can’t fault the boys and the run we are on.

“We were favourites for relegation at the beginning of the season and now we’re pushing for the play-offs with a game in hand on the sides above us.

“That’s the most pleasing thing, I think, that everyone thought we would get relegated and we’ve put some great results together.

“I asked the boys to get to 30 points and we’re now on 28 already, so that’s pleasing and, hopefully, we can look forward to another season at this level.

“I’ve now asked the boys to help us push on and finish higher than we did last season “Alex Grimshaw and Ollie Chamberlain are two players who have stepped up from lower leagues and performed really well, and I think Alex was our man of the match on Saturday.

“I really pleased for people like Graham, out kit man and Rudgey (Nathan Rudge) our assistant manager, who don’t get the praise they deserve for the jobs they do.

“Our physio and goalkeeping coach fall into that category as well, they do a great job and don’t get enough credit.

“It’s been a real squad effort this season and those guys play a huge part.”

Bridgwater Town travel to table-toppers Stratford this weekend, looking to continue their impressive form on the road.

Tonight’s game against Merthyr has been postponed as the visitors are on cup duty, as has December 13 home game against Wimborne.
