Bridgwater Jupiter 54, Old Chelts 25

JUPITER marched on with another impressive performance, this time dispatching basement side Old Chelts on Sunday morning.

The first quarter ended with Jupiter having a four-goal lead.

Great feeding and communication down the court from Baylea Charles meant Jupiter were able to break down Old Chelts style of play to enable the shooters to secure valuable goals to stretch the lead to 10 at half time.

The third quarter was Jupiter’s best. Defenders Beckie Cowley and Lisa Lukins stayed tight on their players, creating turnovers and making Old Chelts panic and force errors with no options to pass to.

The hard work had been done but it wasn’t over yet - GA Becky Palmer had great movement around the circle and good accuracy to enable Jupiter to finish the game 54-25 winners.

Player of the match Lisa Lukins.

Saturn 43, Hovelands 45

SATURN started strongly winning the first quarter 12-10.

In the second quarter, Hovelands pulled back to lead 24-21 with Saturn struggling in the attacking third.

In the second half, the Saturn defence focussed on stopping the accurate feeds with Rachel Simpson (WD) and Michelle Stone (C) pushing the WA and C up with court with arms over the ball, which together with brilliant positioning in the circle by Imma Matchem (GD) and Emma Cocks (GK) gave Saturn many turnovers.

Becky Palmer (GA) was on fire in the shooting circle and could not miss, which not only won her the player of the match but helped Saturn win the third quarter and draw the fourth to finally lose only by two.

Venus 39, Queensway 36

AT the end of first quarter, Venus were trailing 8-10.

Unfortunately the gap couldn’t be narrowed and, despite good centre court play from Chris Shaw (WA) and Cath Clark (C), Queensway still led 17-19.

In the third quarter after excellent play from Emily Harwood, Lucy Brown (GK) came on. Outstanding defence from Lucy, Saskia Middleton (GD) and Bex Dunn (WD) allowed Venus to overtake as the score read 30-26.

In the final quarter, consistent shooting from Sophie Cornish (GS) and player of the match Hannah Setter (GA) let Venus maintain the lead and win 39-36.

Mercury 17, Comeytrowe 33

A RESTRUCTURED Mercury team due to leave, injuries and work commitments took the court against Comeytrowe.

Hana Middleton worked hard in defence continually driving the team forward supported by Emily Harwood and Lucy Kyte.

In attack, player of the match Juste Mockeliunaite worked hard and give debutant Leah Davies the opportunity to find her range but, despite working hard, Mercury were beaten.
