NORTH Petherton Reserves were dumped out of the Taunton & District Saturday League’s Seward Cup at the first round stage on penalties, as they went down 4-2 to Galmington Dragons Reserves in the shootout.

Drawing 3-3 at the end of normal time, Dragons triumphed in the shootout as Pethy’s penalty-takers were off target.

Elsehwere, North Curry beat Middlezoy Athletic 3-1 despite Aaron James netting for Middlezoy.

The Gallery Reserves were beaten 5-3 by Wiveliscombe in a high-scoring encounter.

In Division 1 league action, Bridgwater Sports moved up to second place after a 4-1 home win over Staplegrove Colts – Paul Organ scoring a pair, Matt Fursland and Jason Hitchcock adding one each with Chris Sealey getting Grove’s consolation goal.

North Petherton went down 4-2 to Sampford Blues thanks to two goals from Aziz Abbaze and one each from Craig Lawrence and Luke Lawrence; Tim Gibbs and Tom Williams responded for Pethy.

In Division 2, undefeated Westonzoyland beat Morganians 7-1 – and it was all one-way traffic at Wembdon where they beat Watchet Town Reserves 9-0.

Ben Cheffey helped himself to four goals, Si Lukins two and Joe Cresswell and Andrew Skidmore one each; and there was an own goal to rub it in.

Division 3 leaders Sydenham Rangers were resting but are so far in front of the chasing pack they stayed in front regardless of other results.

Second placed Alcombe Rovers Reserves failed to close the gap being defeated 4-0 by Woolavington who moved up to second as a result.

Redgate and Highbridge Town Reserves ended 1-1 with Jack Hamblin and Morgan Sealey scoring for their respective teams.

Creech Cougars maintained their 100% record in Division 4 with a 4-0 away at Williton – and in Division 5, Bridgwater Sports Colts move up to third after a 7-2 victory over Morganians Reserves – see the Big Match on page 75 of this week's Mercury.
