Premier/ Division One Cup first round (second leg)

Westfield 5 Middlezoy 6 (9-9 agg – Middlezoy won 5-4 on pens)

MIDDLEZOY progressed to the second round of the league cup after a remarkable win over last year’s winners, Westfield, with 18 goals scored in both legs and then penalties.

Going into the game 4-3 down from the first leg, Middlezoy knew they had to start well and did just that.

Within ten minutes they went 1-0 up when Craig Wright pulled the ball back for Dan Luce to smash home.

This started a great half for the visitors and their passing ripped the home side apart throughout.

Craig Wright made it 2-0 with a delightful lob over the keeper inside 20 minutes.

Debutant Jamil Choudhury had an afternoon to remember, making it 3-0 from a header, and he was soon on the score sheet again when Luce cut the ball back for him to slot home his second.

Zoy went in at half-time 5-0 up after another debutant, Kyran Devitt, headed home from a Jamie Temlett cross.

Within five minutes of the second half Westfield pulled a goal back, but Choudhury completed a debut hat-trick for Zoy to make it 6-2 and give them a three-goal aggregate advantage going into the final quarter.

The home side were not done, though, and scored twice in quick succession to come within one goal of levelling the tie.

Unbelievably, they managed to score with the final kick of the game to send the tie straight to penalties.

Zoy managed to convert all their penalties to win the penalty shoot out 5-4, whil keeper Steve Baker was on hand to save the second spot kick from the hosts.
