Southern League Division 1 (S&W)

Totton 1 Bridgwater 1

BRIDGWATER deserved three points from their game at Totton, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw, reports Eddie Robinson.

The away side dominated the first half with David O’Hare bossing the midfield and Andy Robertson giving a masterclass in the air.

Up front, the likes of Dean Griffiths down the right caused problems while Karin Rendall took up a more central position, linking up well with Joe Bushin and Kyle Tooze.

Totton’s leading goal scorer, Craig Feeney, had a chance to put the home side ahead, but couldn’t get the better of Town’s Craig Allan and Scott Thomas.

Bridgwater took the lead on 19 minutes when Totton keeper Matt Renouf’s poor throw was intercepted by Tooze, who fired his shot into the top corner past the stranded keeper.

Ben John finally got a touch after 24 minutes when making a routine catch.

Bridgwater were on top and soon found themselves awarded a penalty. Tooze had run into the area, but when nearing the goal he was brought down.

Bushin’s penalty was well saved by Renouf, getting down well to his right on 37 minutes.

Minutes later, a failed through ball fell to Jack Allward, but the full-back did not get enough height on the header back to John, and attacker Zac Mouland moved in on the ball to beat the advancing Town keeper and equalise.

A flair-up on 72 minutes involved a dozen players after a foul on John, but it proved to be an isolated incident.

Renouf was named man of the match in a match where Totton were awarded no corners.

Bridgwater’s next fixture sees them host Taunton Town at home tonight (Tuesday) in the Red Insure Cup at 7.45pm
