COMMERCIAL B hosted Sportsman A in the Bridgwater Thursday Skittles League’s A Division this week.

Commercial initially struggled to keep in touch with a Sportman side who opened with three 70-odd hands which saw spares from Jerry West, Paul Fothergill, Rob Sedgwick, Warren Cornish, and Steve Moran.

Commercial pulled back 40 pins in the following three hands, putting themselves four in front entering the final hand, where they set a target of 57 for the Sportsman to aim for, and after Dave Wood hit a 15 flopper a win looked on.

Sportsman eventually won by 11 pins.

In the B Division River Parrett A played away at the Cross Rifles and recorded three consistent hands to lead by three pins.

Cross Rifles tied the game in the fourth before hitting a gametopping 73 to take the lead by 11 pins in the fifth hand.

The Parrett won the final two hands, but could not overcome the lead built by the Rifles, losing by four.

In the C Division the Market D team had the shortest of walks across the road to the Blake Arms A for their match and took part in a very close game where the lead changed four times with both teams pulling teens of pins at critical times to stay in contention.

For the final hand Blake set a target of 57 to win which the Market failed to achieve by the slimmest of margins, Blake winning by a single pin.

In the D Division Bunch of Grapes hosted Cobblestones B, and despite an opening spare from Ian Parsons Cobblestones pulled 18 after spares from Martin Plummer and Kevin Dando.

The second hand was a reversal of the first and the game was level again until Cobblestones hit another 70 hand and never looked back despite the Bunch winning the final hand.

Cobblestones won by 15 pins.
