Sydenham Emeralds 21, Minstrels 59

EMERALDS slipped to a 38-point reverse to Minstrels in their opening game of the season.

Emeralds started strongly, working well in both defence and attack, but struggled to keep close to Minstrels with the score 6-18 ending the first quarter.

A slight change to the team after the first quarter managed to force errors from Minstrels, but Emeralds were also making errors and couldn't capitalise - finding themselves down 13-31.

After half-time Minstrels pulled away, despite turning the ball over.

Player of the match went to Kirsty Richards which was well deserved.

Sydenham Rubies 19, Harlequins 29

RUBIES battled hard but were unable to prevent a 29-29 defeat on Saturday.

Rubies started their match well and fought hard throughout the court, their determination had them ending the first quarter 7-4 up.

Harlequins came back strong in the second quarter after making some changes - and although Rubies fought on the second quarter ended 11-15.

The third quarter was very evenly contested and there were some good interceptions from Rubies GD Rheanne Lee, who was voted Umpires' and Players' Player of the Match.

However, Harlequins held firm and the quarter ended 15-20.

The fourth quarter showed both teams beginning to feel the heat of the day however everyone kept fighting to the end with Harlequins taking the victory 19-29.
