Middlezoy Rovers 4, Langford Rovers 0

MIDDLEZOY Rovers got the new season off to a flying start with an emphatic victory over Langford Rovers on Saturday.

Two goals apiece from Jacob Bennett and Sam Peppin sealed the opening day points for ’Zoy, who put in an outstanding secondhalf display to overcome a well organised Langford side.

The visitors shaded a tactical first half, centre forward Paul Callum linking well with the wide men.

Kailan Gould was sent through on 18 minutes but keeper Joe Warren had the early shot covered.

Craig Wright had the chance to give ’Zoy the lead but his direct freekick was well blocked.

Jamie Temlett also missed a good chance, blazing over the bar from the edge of the area.

The sides went in level at the break but Middlezoy came out in the second half with different ideas.

Inside the first five minutes they were ahead, Jacob Bennett stooping low to flick in Craig Wright's low corner.

And, two minutes later from another setpiece, it was Bennett again who Cruyff turned the ball home past the despairing Ryan Scott.

The visitors were unable to find answers to some excellent passing football from Middlezoy, who looked a danger every time they broke forward.

The third goal came from a slick passing move when Sam Peppin finished an Andy Smith delivery on 71 minutes.

The same combination delivered the fourth of the afternoon, this time Peppin drilling the ball home from 20 yards on 78 minutes after good work down the left from Smith.

Substitute John Doyle saw his diving header go wide and Dan Luce’s effort was comfortably collected by the Langford keeper.
