BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey described Saturday’s opening day humbling of Bashley as “the perfect start” as his side cruised to an emphatic 4-0 victory at Fairfax Park.
Fey was full of praise for his new-look side, which included seven debutants.
They dominated the former Southern premier side throughout the 90 minutes in what the manager labelled a “faultless” display.
He said: “I really didn’t know what to expect from the game because we had seven players making their debut against a side looking to bounce straight back from last season’s relegation.
“But, from the kick-off, we were outstanding and I can’t fault what we did.
“We were known as long ball merchants last season, but we’ve changed that now and we’re trying to get the ball down and play – and we totally dominated for 90 minutes; we were faultless.
“The only negative was that we didn’t score more goals.
“Young Ollie Chamberlain was outstanding for us in the new role we have given him – he didn’t score but set up two of the goals.
“The crowd were great and made a lot of noise and, hopefully, we can get a much bigger turnout at our next home game against Shortwood.”
The Robins travel to Evesham this Saturday, August 16, before a trip to Tiverton next Tuesday night, August 19.
