Bridgwater Town 4, Bashley 0

KARIM Rendall scored twice for Bridgwater Town as they cruised to a 4-0 home victory over newly relegated Bashley on the opening day of the new season at Fairfax Park.

Rendall netted either side of goals from Scott Thomas and Jack Allward as Richard Fey’s side made a winning start to the new campaign.

The Fairfax Park faithful didn’t have to wait long for the season’s opening goal as Rendall applied a neat finish to a cross from the right hand side.

Knighton and O’Hare went close to doubling the lead shortly after, but Thomas went one better on 32 minutes with a well executed volley from just inside the penalty area.

Knighton squandered another chance early in the second half with a close range header - but left-back Jack Allward soon made it three on 67 minutes with a powerful strike from the edge of the box following good work from Rendell.

With Ollie Chamberlain and Andy Robertson pulling the strings for Town, the chances were coming thick and fast, as Rendall and Knighton caused havoc in the Bashley defence.

Rendall got just reward for an impressive display with his second of the afternoon on 71 minutes, breaking through a weak challenge before slotting past Callum Maher in the Bashley goal.
