Wembdon 90 lost to Chew Magna 91-3 by seven wickets

WEMBDON have slipped to the bottom of the Bristol and Somerset Division following a seven wicket defeat to relegation rivals Chew Magna on Saturday.

Only three players made it into double figures as Wembdon were shot out for just 90 inside 29 overs batting first.

Chew Magna cruised to their target inside 17 overs to leapfrog Wembdon in the table.

Captain Dan Bingham was left to rue his side's inability to bat 50 overs and admits his side are now in a relegation scrap.

He said: "You just can't be bowled out in 30 overs and expect to win games, it's not good enough. We've had bits of bad luck here and there, but overall, we haven't been good enough.

"We started the season well and won three games, but we've lost four games this month and now we're in a real scrap."

Wembdon lost the toss and were asked to bat first at Chew Court and Puddy went early - but Blackwell launched a counter attack.

Curd played a watchful innings and he was at the crease when Blackwell (24) top edged a delivery searching for the boundary.

Curd and Bowditch played patient innings’ to the flurry of wickets they shared a stand of 23 to take Wembdon to 50 but a flurry of wickets saw Wembdon collapse to 84 for 7.

Trunks had a brief and explosive cameo for 22 whilst Eckley and Bowditch tried to add some respectability.

But when Bowditch (25) went to a good stumping the innings was wrapped up and Wembdon were dismissed yet again for a poor 90 from just 29 overs.

The pitch had a few gremlins and a few early wickets could have made the encounter interesting, but the talented Watson who came in early after Pope trapped Blower LBW, took the game away from Wembdon with strong stroke play.

Hubbard did get Watson (39) caught behind but with seven runs required for a Chew win, the game had gone Wembdon host high flying Taunton next Saturday at Wembdon 1pm start.
