WEPL Premier Two Second XI

Ashcott and Shapwick 2nds 178 beat Cheltenham 2nds 70 by 108 runs

ASHCOTT & Shapwick seconds came away with a comfortable home win against Cheltenham 2nds by 108 runs.

Cheltenham won the toss and elected to bowl at Northbrook Road, but it wasn’t long before Ashcott had the upper hand.

The away side were all out for 70 after 22 overs.

Will Rudge set about toppling Cheltenham on his own with a score of 65 with Bitop Mehanta also putting in a fine performance.

Mike Higgs (4-13) and James Haggett (4-42) were on the warpath against their frail opponents and were both on for hat-tricks in the latter stages of the match, with Cheltenham going from 43-3 to 43-7.

Martin Baker, Ashcott secretary, said: “Higgs and Haggett killed the game off in the space of five balls.

“We played really well, but Cheltenham’s batting was absolutely dire.”

Ashcott seconds are away at Warminster 2nds this Saturday, July 26, while Ashcott firsts, whose game was cancelled at the weekend, host Taunton Deane firsts.
