Somerset Rebels 59-35 Newcastle Diamonds

THE Rebels proved too much to handle at home in a keenly fought battle against Newcastle Diamonds.

The home side, who have had time away from the track due to the weather, pulled off an impressive 59-35 win over the Diamonds with Nick Morris scoring a superb 12+1 return, supported by Brady Kurtz (11+2) and Olly Allen (10+1).

Pontus Aspgren made an impact on his return from injury with a 9+2 contribution.

The Diamonds Simon Nielsen was taken to the pits by medics after being trapped between two bikes in heat nine ,but fortunately he did not suffer serious injury.

Chris Mills took Nielsen’s place, but could do little to stop the Rebels, who went on to secure a 20-point lead in the process.

Danny King was in good form, returning a 15-point haul from his five rides, and was supported by Stuart Robson, who got better after a shaky start and managed to grab seven points in the final tally.

It was a slow start for the Rebels, but once they found momentum they dominated and comfortably saw off their opponents by 24 points.

The Rebels currently sit in the play-off places, only four points behind second-placed Ipswich with seven matches in hand and 19 points behind leaders Edinburgh.

The Rebels head to Ipswich this Thursday to start a run of seven meetings in 11 days, ending in the Premier League Fours at Peterborough on Sunday, August 3.
