Football enthusiasts encouraged to sign up to Somerset FA Youth Council
2:00pm Friday 18th July 2014 in Sport
YOUNG football enthusiasts with a passion for volunteering are being handed a great chance to help craft the future of the local and national game by signing up for the Somerset FA Youth Council.
People aged between 16 and 24 have until the start of August to secure a place with the influential group, which plays a key part in “providing a voice” for Children and Young People (CYP) in football across the county.
Committee members team up regularly to discuss ways of increasing participation of children and young people in the sport, whether through playing, officiating or vital volunteering roles behind the soccer scenes.
Aims of the youth council include striving to secure funding to deliver football projects and raise awareness of the many opportunities youngsters have to get involved in Somerset football, on and off the pitch.
The team is also to hand to consult with children and young adults on what they want from the sport in the county and make recommendations for change.
Somerset FA college and community football co-ordinator Lauren O’Sullivan explained: “Our youth council is designed to provide a voice for children and young people in football across Somerset and our members represent the game from all districts of the county and come from a diverse range of backgrounds and football-related areas.
Deadline for applications is Friday, August 1 at 4pm.
