WEPL Premier One Second XI

Bridgwater 238-3 beat Corsham 236-5 by seven wickets

HALF centuries from Scott Sealey and Liam Kitch propelled Bridgwater II to a commanding seven-wicket victory over reigning champions Corsham at The Parks on Saturday.

Kitch (68) and Sealey (50) shared an opening stand of 145 in 23 overs as Bridgwater chased down 236 with just under four overs to spare.

On winning the toss Corsham elected to bat and built a solid foundation through Tom Abbot (39) and Gabriel Field (23), with 62 for the first wicket.

Chris Singleton dismissed both openers in his second spell, but then Corsham upped the ante, led by a good 50 from Andy Davis, as he shared stands with Will Wales and Adam Mitchell.

Mitchell was to play a brutal innings of 61 not out off only 35 balls to propel his side to a competitive total of 236-5 as Corsham added more than 100 in the final 10 overs of the innings.

The Bridgwater openers set about their task in aggressive fashion, with Kitch in particular playing some early shots to the boundary.

Kitch managed three maximums with some superb clean hitting, and whilst Sealey was more watchful, he provided a good foil as Corsham's bowlers toiled on a good wicket.

Sealey fell for a fine 50 just after the drinks break, and when Kitch followed soon after with the score on 161 Corsham may have sensed a route back into the game.

This was quickly closed by Jonathan Vickery (39no) and Kerry Windsor (13) as they shared a good stand of 45 to bring their side within touching distance of victory before Windsor fell LBW.

This brought Ed Habberfield to the crease, and his cameo 23no supported the untroubled Vickery, who finished unbeaten on a run a ball 39, Bridgwater reaching their target in the 41st over.
