Wembdon 159 lost to Midsomer Norton 207-9 by 48 runs

WEMBDON slipped to a 48-run defeat to an unbeaten Midsomer Norton side on Saturday.

Jon Brockwell took 4-60 as Wembdon restricted Midsomer to just 207-9 from their 50 overs, but their reply never got going with only Richard Eckley (38no) and Rich Gower (31) contributing.

Having been asked to bowl in sweltering heat, it would be hard work for Wembdon, but there were no slips in focus and they bowled tight lines.

Wickets were hard to come by, but the run rate was slow. Norton went past 100, and the dismissal of Martin Cox (52) triggered a flow of wickets.

Nick Pang played some big shots, but was bowled by Ian Blackwell for 30., and the regular loss of wickets in the last ten overs saw Norton limp to 207-9.

In reply, Puddy played on and Curd followed a ball later before Brockwell (10) and Gower (31) built a solid partnership.

Yet again, wickets fell in pairs, but Gower was was unluckily run out.

Bingham made a steady (16) with Blackwell (11), but Bingham was eventually bowled, while a stunning catch by the keeper dismissed Blackwell.

Trunks struck a huge six before falling LBW to leave Wembdon on 96-8, but a 42-run partnership between Phillips (11) and Eckley (38*) recovered some pride before the innings closed on 159.
