MARCUS Trescothick is relishing the prospect of returning to lead Somerset in their top of the table clash with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

After last week’s victory over Sussex at the County Ground, Trescothick’s men were in pole position in crickets’s blue riband event at the half-way stage of the season.

However they have had a ten day break and played three Nat West T20 Blast games since then.

Their hosts Nottinghamshire beat Middlesex earlier this week to take over the lead with 118 points from nine matches, while the Cidermen have 113 with a game in hand, so there is all to play for.

Trescothick, who injured his groin during the second innings of the Sussex match and has been missing from the scene since then, is making a good recovery and is expected to be back to lead his county on Sunday.

He said: “We know Notts are a good side, especially on their home ground, and they had a good win earlier this week to go top.

“The important thing for us is that we have played good cricket.

“We have to get back to the basic things that we have done well which have put us into positions to win games.

“If we do that then we can put in the performances to keep ourselves at the top.”

Somerset have bounced back well in the NatWest Blast T20 and after back-to-back wins over Hampshire at Taunton on Friday and Sussex at Arundel on Sunday, where Dirk Nannes claimed a career best 5-31, they faced Middlesex at the Oval last night (Wednesday).

Somerset’s next home match in the T20 is against Essex on Friday, June 27 (5.30pm).
