Ashcott & Shapwick 56 lost to Bath 187-7 by 131 runs

ASHCOTT & Shapwick slumped to a heavy 131-run defeat at league leaders Bath in a rain recued clash at Northbrook Road.

Chasing 188 to run in 35 overs, Ashcott crumbled to just 56 all out inside 23 overs, with only Sam Edmunds (19) making it into double figures.

Earlier, Ben Rudge (2-34) and Nayan Kamarkar (2-31) had been the pick of the bowlers for Ashcott, as Bath amassed an imposing total - mainly thanks to an aggressive 59 from Will Jenkins at the top of the order.

George Hankins (44) and Sam Mount (29) also made valuable contributions for Bath, while James Hayman (1-28), Gareth Harte (1-38) and James Haggett (1-22) all chipped in with a wicket apiece.

But the Ashcott reply never really got going and wasn't helped by losing two wickets in the second over - with Tinnion and Kamarkar both falling to Bath captain Lloyd Davies, who finished with impressive figures of 4-4.

Charlie Vickery followed shortly after to leave Ashcott 8-3 - and when Harte and Rudge both departed for 2, Ashcott were 14-5 and staring down the barrel of a complete humiliation.

Edmunds steadied the ship for a brief time, but wickets continued to tumble at the other end, and Spencer (5) and Hayman (0), fell to Tom Drake (2-18) in successive deliveries, with Hayman dismissed first ball.

Edmunds was then run out by Adam Kelly to make the score 41-8 - and Simon Marchant (2-14) finished the job in the 23rd over to condemn Ashcott to a heavy defeat.
