Wembdon II 253 – 7, beat Glastonbury II 172 – 9 by 81 runs

BILLY Vickery struck a superb unbeaten century as Wembdon II made it three wins from four with an 81-run victory over Glastonbury on Saturday.

Vickery struck 14 fours and six sixes in a knock of 124 as Wembdon posted 253-7 from their 45 overs.

In reply, Glastonbury were never really in the hunt and 4-29 from Carwyn Jenkins ensured Wembdon left with the points.

After losing skipper Jenkins early chasing a wide one, Vickery and George Lowe (39) put on a stand of 95 for the second wicket to put Wembdon in firm control.

This enabled the strong middle order of Wembdon to come in and play cameo innings, whilst Vickery was moving along with ease.

Innings’ of 29 for Jack Lowe and 31 from Mike Watts helped the run rate along, while at the other end, Vickery was showing his class.

He reached his century with another crunching boundary and raced to 124 as Wembdon to finished on 253.

Tight opening spells from Watts (0-8 from six overs) and Pete Gliddon (0-20) put Glastonbury behind the eight ball Will Pope (1-28) and Tim Bennett who took (3-25) made the breakthroughs and the middle order of Glastonbury didn’t seem interested in scoring runs.

Jenkins came on to clean up the lower order with four quick wickets, sealing an emphatic win for Wembdon.
