Ashcott and Shapwick 213-8 beat Weston-super-Mare 175 by 38 runs

GARETH Harte was the star of the show as Ashcott & Shapwick beat Weston-super-Mare by 38 runs on Saturday.

Harte struck 75 and took 5-42 to help his side to a hard-fought victory.

Charlie Vickery (76) and Harte (75) combined to put on a match winning partnership to help Ashcott battle back from 20-2 to post 213-8 from their 50 overs.

The Weston innings got off to a flyer with Davidson and Ahmed (55) profiting from a wayward start from the Ashcott attack, racing to 40 within the first seven overs.

After the dismissal of Davidson, Stringer followed shortly after which brought John Williams to the crease.

He played in his usual manner making the game look easy.

Tight bowling from Mike Higgs (1- 22) and Nayan Karmarkar (0-17) however, swayed the game back in Ashcott's favour.

In need of wickets Gareth Harte was introduced and took the key wickets of Ahmed and the normally dangerous Morgan.

Williams was surprisingly removed holing out at deep square after the introduction of Wayne Spencer (3-9) and the Weston tail failed to wag, as Harte finished things off by trapping Fear LBW.

Next week Ashcott host Corsham, 1pm start.
