BRIDGWATER & Albion Under-15s have battled their way to a superb tournament trophy win at the South West Festival of Rugby, in Barnstaple.

Playing in two groups of six teams, Bridgwater were in Group One along with Pontypridd, Esher, Brighton II, Moseley and Abertillary. Each Group game was 10 minutes each way, with no conversions and only points for awarded for tries.

On Saturday’s, Albion went down 10-5 to Brighton II, 10-0 to Moseley and 20-0 to Pontypridd – before drawing 5-5 with Esher.

On Sunday, Bridgwater were put into the trophy competition after a sixth place finish in the group stages, but bounced back in fine fashion to beat Barnstaple 5-0 in the semi-final and Brighton II 15-5 in the final to complete a superb comeback.

Coach Stuart Powell said: “Every single player played their part and, on Sunday, the lads played some scintillating rugby.

“They made us all proud but most of all they did it for themselves.

“They turned around a disappointing opening day and I had several people, including the RFU officials, comment on how fantastic some of our rugby was.”
