IT WAS a miserable afternoon for North Newton in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket League as they were shot out for just 20 by Wells II.

Chasing 138 to win, only C Barrington (13) reached double figures for Newton as they slumped to a heavy defeat.

Barrington led the charge with the ball as well, taking 6-35 to help restrict Wells II to 137.

In Division One, Bridgwater A beat North Curry by 53 runs thanks to a fine bowling display from K Windsor (3-29).

Windsor and D Rossiter (2-19) combined to help bowl North Curry out for 171, after J Stone (33) and A Hewson and A Witts (both 32) had set them 225 to win.

Elsewhere in Division One, I Bishop took 5-50 for Middlezoy as they cruised to a seven wicket victory over Kilmington & Stourton.

Bishop’s efforts kept to Kilmington to 196-8 from their 45 overs, before M Troman (48), G Purchase (46) and G Musgrave (41no) carried ‘Zoy to an empathic win.

In Division Five, Mark were another side to fail to reach triple figures after being bowled out for just 97 against Banwell and Churchill.

N Olleranshaw (29) and T Cattermole (17) were the only batsman to put up any sort of resistance in a mediocre total – their opponents had little trouble with the chase, cruising home by eight wickets. Chilton Polden were beaten by eight wickets by Peasedown St John, having been shot out for just 113 – and in Division Seven, Middlezoy II lost to Wellington III by 17 runs.

Wembdon Wyverns joined the double figures club as they were dismissed for 91 in pursuit of Crewkerne’s massive 248-4.

K Rawles took 3-53 for Wembdon – one of the few bright points for them on the day.

In Division 8S, North Petherton thrashed Chilton Polden II by eight wickets – batting first polden were all out for just 79, with P Thurston (3-6) the pick of the bowlers.

S Frost, T Lambert and S Briffet also took two wickets apiece, before R Edwards (38) led them to victory with the bat.

Wembdon Academy for comfortable victors over Bridgwater Sports, taking victory by 58 runs.

Batting first, Wembdon posted 213-4 thanks to 57 not out from K Futcher and valuable contributions from J Dunster (45) and S Hughes (45).

In reply, Bridgwater Sports were never really in the chase and eventually finished on 155-9 – L Musgrave top scored with 48, while B Lipscombe took 4-43 for Wembdon.
