BRIDGWATER College's Motorsport team made the long journey to Snetterton race circuit, Norfolk, for the first race of the new season.
The team consisted of first and second year Foundation Degree students who were hoping to replicate last year's success in the Castle Combe championship in the Excool OSS Championship.
A successful test day on the Friday was followed by one qualifying session and three races over Saturday and Sunday.
The weather was changeable throughout the weekend which was an additional challenge when accompanied by an unfamiliar race format, circuit and championship.
However, the students coped well and after an electrical fault in qualifying, which placed them 26th on the grid, they were able to achieve three class wins, three fastest laps and a new class record after finishing fifth (twice) and fourth overall.
The student team consisted of Victoria Guppy, Jim Jefferson, Tristan Watkins, Nathan Naylor, Henry Marchant and Sam Street. Students Matt Taylor and Billy Dykes supported the competitors.
The next round is at Brands Hatch at the end of May where the team hopes to build upon its success and maintain the challenge for the championship.
