South West Colleges Elite Premier League
Bridgwater College EDS 7, Guernsey FA 0
TEAM BC men’s elite football development squad kept their South West Elite Premier League title chances alive with a comprehensive win over league newcomers Guernsey.
Ross Panes opened the scoring after ten minutes from a pin-point Lewis Hembury free- kick and Hembury’s laser sharp crosses found the free goalscoring Matt Connick, who headed in from a corner five minutes later.
Captain Ollie Chamberlain showed his usual composure and class in the centre of midfield with the ever-industrious Harry Horton.
The two combined passes to release Connick who smashed the ball past the stranded Guernsey keeper to make it 3-0.
Debutant Tom Yates came on for Panes and was immediately involved in creating Team BC’s fourth goal – setting free Chamberlain on the right to waltz past four Guernsey defenders and drive his shot into the far left-hand side of the goal.
Panes grabbed a second from another wellrehearsed corner by Hembury – and the immaculate Dan Barber scored as well as the tall centre back rose above a crowded penalty area and headed home from another Hembury corner.
Hembury, playing a key role with three assists in the game, got himself on the score sheet as he latched on to a fine cross-field pass from Horton and rounded the advancing goalkeeper to score from a rebound off the post to secure a comfortable victory for Team BC.
