BRIDGWATER Cricket Club's new first team captain Steffan Jones says his side are targeting a league, cup and Twenty20 treble from the 2014 season.

Bridgwater open up their 2014 campaign with a weekend double header against local rivals Ashcott & Shapwick - and former Somerset player Jones believes they have the quality to compete with the very best sides in the country.

He said: “We want to win everything we are entered in - the league, the national cup and the twenty20 competition - if we perform, I don't think there will be a stronger side in the country.

“But that's just names on a team sheet, we've got to go out and perform well, starting this weekend.

“We've got so much quality in our side - we've signed a cracking leg spinner from Australia, in Cameron Williams, Chris Skidmore continues to develop and is bowling with real pace now and Robbie Montgomery is another who looks a brilliant cricketer.

“The boys have worked hard over the winter and are looking forward to the start of the season now. I've tried to install an element of professionalism, so we've been doing fitness over the winter on Sunday evenings and have been training outside for a few weeks now.

“We played well in our pre season games and the lads are looking good.”

Jones, who is currently head of elite performance at Wellington College, takes over the captaincy from Michael Coles, who has joined Corsham - and the Welshman is delighted to be back.

“It's a great club and I'm looking forward to captaining throughout the season - it's great to be back.”

Bridgwater take on Ashcott and Shapwick at Northbrook Road on Saturday (May 3) in the opening WEPL Premier One fixture of the season, before a second meeting the following day in the national knockout cup.
