BRIDGWATER College recently held a launch event and a series of workshops to promote its new sports provision, the Team BC brand.

The Team BC Sport programme replaces the Sports Academy, offering high-quality structured training plus regular competition in British Colleges Sport leagues for rugby, trampolining, golf, netball, basketball, and male and female football and hockey.

Team BC Active replaces the Sports Enrichment programme, and offers a wide range of non-competitive and informal activities for students, including archery, badminton, wheelchair basketball and boccia.

Professional freestylers Matti Hemmings (world record BMX flatlander), Colin Nell (footballer), Andrew Wilding (basketballer) and Connor Stringer (free runner) led a series of practical workshops for students to get involved in, enabling them to find out more about what it takes to become a professional freestyle athlete.

Maggie St Quintin, a Learning for Living Lecturer, said: “The event was a success for our students.

“It was good to see different sports showcased and for the students to be able to have a go at them.

“The freestylers were all very good with our students, showing an inclusive approach.”

The evening launch event provided the opportunity for prospective students to meet current Team BC coaching staff and students before Sports Development Manager Luke Buckingham presented the new Team BC video.

The freestylers then performed before a series of questions from the audience.
