Somerset County League Division One

Middlezoy Rovers 1, Westfield 1

MIDDLEZOY left it late to pick up a deserved point against Westfield on Saturday.

Andy Smith went close for the home side early on, but his header was unbelievably saved at point blank range by star man Wayne Gay.

Dan Luce and Damon Jennings had further chances in the opening moments, but neither hit the target when well placed to finish.

Westfield took the lead on the stroke of halftime when a good move down the right saw Bradley Beauchamp slide the ball home from close range.

Early in the second half, Middlezoy went in search of the equaliser and were denied again by Gay with another top save from Steve Hall.

The visitors were playing the counter-attack as Middlezoy started to take more chances.

In the last minute a long throw from Jamie Temlett was flicked on by keeper Steve Baker and the ball fell to Tom Brown, who bundled home from close range.

Manager Johnny Warren: “The lads showed great fighting spirit against a stubborn Westfield defence and with a minute left we’re thinking it’s not going to be our day today, especially after two incredible saves by their keeper.

“This could prove an important point at the end of the season and it’s one we fully deserved on the balance of play.”

Middlezoy host Castle Cary this weekend, looking to extend their five-game unbeaten league run.
