Guildford City 0, Bridgwater Town 3

BRIDGWATER Town recorded their seventh away win of the season as they beat Guildford City 3-0 on Saturday, writes Eddie Robinson.

Alexander pushed Afful's shot round the post to concede the game's first corner after four minutes - and a moment later he raced 30 yards from his line to thwart a home attack by heading clear.

This early flourish from the home side was got sustained and the game was largely confined to the midfield.

A spell of Bridgwater pressure ended with Mawford having a first shot on goal after 17 minutes.

Bridgwater were playing long balls out of defence to exploit the pace of their front men and get in behind the Guildford defence.

And it was from a long ball that the visitors took the lead on 18 minutes - Knighton appeared second favourite to Faux's pass, but he wriggled his way past his marker before squeezing the ball past 'keeper Hall.

This was the eighth game in which Knighton has scored in 14 appearances.

For the remainder of the half, Bridgwater were on top, with Mawford very prominent when bursting down the left from midfield.

Faux hit the post from Pilling's cross and Mawford had Hall scrambling across his line with a neat effort.

But the visitors did eventually take the game away from Guidford within three minutes of the restart - scoring twice through Mawford in this spell.

Pilling won the ball in midfield, weighed up his options before finding the unmarked Knighton, who had moved intelligently into space.

The striker laid the ball off to the onrushing Mawford, who scored with an assured finish.

The second was a carbon copy, as Rendell's scuffed pass found Knighton, who in turn squared the ball, to Mawford to finish with a well-placed shot.

Now well on top, Bridgwater could have scored more goals - with Mawford a foot wide of the far post from a fairly tight angle.

Bridgwater's only anxious moment came when a corner was headed against the bar before beign scrambled away, amidst protests that the ball had crossed the line.

Bridgwater ran down the clock, happy to record another away victory - they travel to mangotsfield United on Tuesday (April 8, 7.45pm KO).
