Larkhall Athletic Reserves 1 Middlezoy Rovers 2
MIDDLEZOY collected maximum points for the fourth away game running with a narrow win against Larkhall on Saturday.
Zoy midfielder Damon Jennings bent in a magnificent opener after exchanging passes with Craig Wright on 12 minutes.
Paul Atyeo came close to extending the lead after a good turn and shot, but Sam Cottell in the Larkhall goal was equal to it.
After a series of Middlezoy corners at one end the home side broke away and scored through Chris Pile on 31 minutes.
Middlezoy continued to press and went close through Charlie Lintell tried from long range.
Early in the second half Middlezoy were awarded a penalty when Lintell was tugged back in the area. The penalty from Andy Smith was well saved by the Larkhall keeper.
The Middlezoy manager made a couple of changes and went to a more attacking 4-2-4 formation as he looked for a winning solution, and with ten minutes left substitute Mike Southgate turned his man and was dragged down for the second penalty of the afternoon.
Southgate slotted home to ensure three points, and Middlezoy move into sixth place, well poised for a promotion push with games in hand on most teams above them.
They entertain Westfield in an early 1pm kick-off this Saturday at the Aerodrome.
Star Man: Damon Jennings (Middlezoy) Middlezoy: Baker, Hall, Brown, L Turner, Lintell, Cann, Jennings (Bone), Smith, Wright (Southgate), Luce, Atyeo (Warren).
