WESSEX WATER FISHERIES PERFORMANCE Week Ending 16th March 2014 HAWKRIDGE Fish caught 256 Rod Average 3.4 Hawkridge fished well this week with anglers averaging 3.4 fish per rod.

Mr G Gale had the best rainbow this week weighing 7lb. Mike Macready had the best golden trout weighing 5lb 6oz and Mr R Tilbury landed the heaviest bag limit totalling 17lb.

Most fish are being caught just below the surface on Black and Green Montana, Blue Flash Damsel and Cats Whisker.

Gary Howe, Ranger CLATWORTHY Fish caught 730 Rod Average 3.4 It was a great start to the 2014 season with many anglers venturing out in the fine weather. This week there were 210 returns which landed a total of 730 fish giving a rod average of 3.4.

There were many good bags averaging between 12 & 17lb, with the biggest five fish limit bags being caught by Mr L Williams (20lb 6oz), Mr D Browning (19lb 11oz) and Mr G Bellamy (18lb 2oz).

Mr P Hye landed the biggest fish this week weighing 10lb 1oz, an overwintered fish which was stocked during the last season. The best season ticket limit went to Mr G Woolfenton, weighing 16lb 6oz. Fish were caught all over the lake from boat and bank. The main tactics were sinking lines with traditional wets, but some anglers were successful with floating lines and buzzer patterns.

Dave Pursey, Ranger SUTTON BINGHAM Fish caught 776 Rod Average 4.1 The fishing has been excellent again this week at Sutton Bingham, a total of 189 rods landed 776 fish giving a rod average of 4.1 and an impressive 138 bag limits were taken.

Floating lines fished with smaller pattern flies are starting to take most of the fish. Pheasant Tails, Diawl Bachs and small Damsels are all working well. The best bag limit this week was taken by Mr A Handy weighing 18lb which included a rainbow of 7lb 6oz but Mr A Kilby landed the biggest fish of the week weighing 7lb 8oz. All the banks are fishing well with some anglers taking their limits from the South arm.

The West pond fished well at the start of the week but towards the end got slightly harder, the North West winds pushed the fish towards the middle and anglers found it difficult to reach them, however, 13 rods managed to take 29 fish giving a rod average of 2.2. Mr Tom Baker took the best bag again weighing 24lb 15oz and the best rainbow weighing 7lb 13oz.
