Saturn 31, Swans 41

SATURN were knocked out of the Somerset Cup at the semi-final stage after losing 41-31 to Swans.

Saturn were slow out of the starting blocks, which Swans capitalised on, pulling away from the offset and leading 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.

With renewed vigour, Saturn started the second quarter more positively, pulling back level with Swans following great movement and shots from the shooting duo of Sammy Kemmish and Katy Cheese.

However, Swans weren't about to give up and despite pressure in the defensive circle by GK Sally Haysham, the Swans shooters rarely missed, still leading 22-18 at half time.

Saturn knew they had to dig deep in the second half to turn this game around if they were going to make it to Cup Final Day.

Both teams were evenly matched in the third period, as Imogen Setter at centre kept pace with the opposition, pressurising each pass.

Whilst player of the match, Michelle Stone at WD, made numerous defensive interceptions, keeping Saturn in with a fighting chance.

The final quarter saw an increase in urgency from Swans, who successfully turned over missed shots from Saturn with ease to pull away with 41-31 victory.

Mars 19, Hendford 59

MARS fielded another new line up for their cup game against Henford.

The game was end to end, with Henford taking the lead despite some good shooting by Aerin Phillips (GS) and good defending by Emily Harwood (GD).

Half time saw team changes due to injury, with Kayleigh Haste moving to GK, Cerys Etheridge to GA and Elaine Bartlett to C.

The team worked well and never gave up, but lost 59-19.

Player of the match Kayleigh Haste.

Neptune 37, Wyndham 59

SATURDAY saw Neptune take on Wyndham for the second time this season with a new line up.

Neptune started strongly and kept a handle of the experienced opposition in the first quarter.

The Neptune defence of Coleen Bartlett (GK) and Morgan Middleton (GD) worked hard in the circle getting some vital interceptions despite Wyndham narrowly taking the lead 11-7.

Neptune continued to pressurise the game with some impressive shooting from player of the match, Lianne Fothergill (GS), supported by Karis Holleron (GA) and later by Sarah Perry.

However, Wyndham started to pull away with the match, with the half time score 14-32.

Changes were made in the second half of the game and were much more effective as Neptune played some positive netball, with good movement from centre court players Dawn Fothergill (C) and Annia Holleron (WD).

Neptune finished the match strongly, although too late, as the final score was 37-59.
