Bridgwater Town 2, Stoke Lane Athletic 1

ANUSIA Rourke scored an injury time winner to give Bridgwater Town Ladies victory over Stoke Lane Athletic.

Rourke slotted home from the narrowest of angles in the dying minutes to give Town all three points, after Georgia Coles had put them into a 1-0 lead.

After three months without a game, this was like starting a new season for the Town.

They had the majority of possession in the first half, playing with a stiff wind.

Midway through the half, Georgia Coles put Town ahead – and, just before half time, they could have gone further ahead, when they were awarded a penalty, but Ami Ward scuffed her kick, giving the Stoke Lane keeper the time to stick out a leg and make a save.

In the second half, playing against a stiffening wind, Town kept the visitors at bay but, as the rain started to fall and the pitch became heavy, the lack of match practice began to tell.

Town keeper Faye Edwards started to get busy but was injured making a save which required her to leave the field.

Daisy Goldsmith took over but she was eventually beaten five minutes from the end as a 25-yard free kick went in the top corner via the crossbar, giving Goldsmith no chance.

That looked like that was it but, on 90 minutes, Anusia Rourke went through on goal, rounded the keeper, and slotted the ball home from a tight angle, giving Town a deserved and morale-boosting victory.

l Bridgwater are at home to Swindon Spitfires on Sunday, with a 2pm kick-off.
