Morganians 5, Burnham 10

MORGANIANS looked to build on their win last week when they took on Burnham on Saturday, but narrowly missed out after a stunning 20 minute period at the end of the match where they completely dominated the game.

The start of the game was very tight with both sides kicking away position due to quick defences closing down both sets of half backs, not allowing any momentum to be created for either side.

Morganians did show promise when the ball was spread wide quickly and came close to scoring on a few occasions, but great last ditch tackles kept them from scoring.

The second half started at a slower pace, allowing both teams more time on the ball to exploit space around the pitch.

It was Burnham who broke the deadlock first with a penalty slotted home from the Morgs 22 meter line.

Burnham followed up by scoring a try, after a dubious refereeing decision not blowing up for an obvious knock on by Burnham, in the corner after some good offloading in the backs to finish neatly under the posts.

This only sparked Morgs into life, upping the tempo and keeping the opposition pinned in their own 22 for the remainder of the game.

There seemed to be a seamless link between the forwards and the backs which made it hard for Burnham to defend against, and they were opened up time and time again.

Will Hopkins did force his way over and add five points after some quick play around the ruck area, to bring Morgs right back into the game.

Straight from the following kick off, Morganians managed to work their way back down into Burnham territory to put themselves into contention to win the game.

Good breaks from Royston Grimstead, Jason Richards and James Fox gained Morgs the ground to really apply pressure, but a good defence and a slip of the ball in a final play meant that the win wasn't going to come.

Morgs held their heads high after what was a truly gutsy display where they dug deep to nearly pull off a brilliant result.

The team travel to table topping Cheddar next weekend with the kick at the usual time of 2.30pm.
