Calor League South & West

Bridgwater Town 1, North Leigh 1

BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey said Saturday’s 1-1 draw against high-flying North Leigh “felt like a win.”

Tom Knighton’s close range equaliser in the dying minutes sealed a well-earned point for the Robins after James Dobson had given North Leigh a first-half lead.

And Fey was delighted with the performance of his side having played such little football in recent weeks – but also paid tribute to efforts of the club’s ground staff and officials, who worked tirelessly on the pitch to ensure the game went ahead.

He said: “It was brilliant, credit to the ground staff and everyone who helped get the game on. When we got to the game, the match was in doubt and the referee left it up to both sides. Both clubs agreed to play and the pitch wasn’t an issue at any point in the game.

“It felt like a win because we had five lads making their home debuts and we have had to work hard. I thought they shaded the first half playing with the wind, but we played well with it in the second half and their manager came up to me after the game and said we thoroughly deserved the point, which is nice to hear.

“Tom Knighton worked really hard up front and his pace frightened them – and he took his goal really well. The atmosphere in the club after the game was great and it was brilliant to see all the fans at the game.

“But I can’t credit enough the guys who worked hard to get the game on, we really needed to play.

“We’ve got three games coming up against teams below us, so they’re going to be really important for us – because after that we’ve got Merthyr, Taunton and Yate.”

James Dobson fired the visitors into the lead on 33 minutes with a neat finish from close range.

But the Robins weren’t to be deterred and fought back with a number of chances of their own.

With just minutes remaining, Knighton was rewarded for his hard work with a well-deserved equaliser, as he pounced on a loose ball to smash home from close range.

## Bridgwater Town host Thatcham Town tonight (Tuesday) hoping to build on Saturday’s encouraging display – kick-off is 7.45pm at Fairfax Park.
