Bridgwater Town hit by players’ departure

First published in Sport

BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey has praised the efforts and attitude of his current squad following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Didcot Town (see full report on page 79).

Three players have left the club in the past month – with Danny Wring, Toby Osman and Chris Wright all moving on – but Fey was keen to applaud the players who have stayed on.

He said: “The lads are working really hard at the moment, but we have lost a lot of players.

“I can’t help players going on to better themselves with bigger clubs, but it comes down to money sometimes and we can’t compete with the bigger clubs who can offer more money than we can – we are an average-paying side in this league.

“I’m looking to stabilise the squad now and build for next season heading into a new era for the club under chairman Richard Johnson.”

Mr Johnson said: “I know the people of Bridgwater and I know they are fully behind the club.

“I want to see a big crowd on Saturday to cheer the lads on and support the club.

“As long as people support us, the club will be there – I will work my damned hardest to ensure this.

“No one can see the future, but if we are rewarded for hard work, we will be fine.”

The Robins host Thatcham Town on Saturday (KO 3pm) before travelling to Cinderford Town on Tuesday (February 11).

Bridgwater Reserves hope to get their season back on track when they travel to Yatton Athletic in the Errea County Premier division.

Who bought these players in, at the expense of others? You let alot of players go, who were happy to play for the money that Bridgey paid. Only got yourself to blame.
Sorry to say.

Here we go again.
I’d like to know who the Bridgwater Town website intended to cater for. The Fans? We’re asked to rally around the team but ignored prior to a crisis. Why is there never any news or detail posted on it, it’s not even updated with results. Meanwhile rumours persist that the departure of all the Bristol based players comes at a cost to the local based Reserve squad which will be axed.

Website is catered for no one - worst website in any league. Never updated, no information - a disgrace. Only one person to blame for the departures. The person that bought them in. There is NO commitment with outside the area players.
