BRIDGWATER Town are still yet to play in 2014 after both of their New Year games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

First the New Year’s Day derby with Taunton Town suffered at the hands of the weather, with the Fairfax Park pitch unplayable last Wednesday – then Saturday’s (January 4) clash with Bishops Cleeve was called off early in the morning following torrential rain over the previous days.

Manager Richard Fey believes the break has given his side a much needed rest and is confident the Robins won’t experience the same number of cancellations as last season.

He said: “The break will do us good, as much as I was disappointed with the derby against Taunton being off on New Year’s Day and Saturday versus Bishops Cleeve - I have sat down and looked at the half-way point of the season.

“And after playing 35 games already in all competitions and with 14 consecutive midweek games in that, the break will only do us good.

“The drainage the club put in at the start of the season is working and I’m confident we won’t have a repeat of last season.”
