WEATHER totally devastated the weekend's Taunton & District league fixture list, with only one game being played on grass at Exmoor, and three further games played were on the 3G artificial pitch at Castle School.

Highbridge Town thrashed bottom side North Petherton 6-0 in Division One thanks to braces from Wayne Hand and Chris Taylor.

Mike Green added a fifth and own goal gifted Highbridge their sixth.

It was a similar story in the Seward Cup with top third division side Tone Youth beating lower placed North Petherton Reserves 9-1, thanks to a hat-trick from Kieran Wyatt.

Tone should have been ahead early doors but squandered a penalty, before Alec Jones then broke the deadlock. Dean Iserna then scored a wonder goal.

Wyatt soon went on to complete his hat trick - and Joe Jones (2), Alec Jones and Gary Shier rounded off the scoring.

In Division Four, Exmoor Rangers beat Rhode Lane Wanderers 4-1 at Wheddon Cross.

Gareth Hoyle netted twice for Rangers - Jimmy Baker and Herc Ashworth added one each.

Matt Parker replied for Wanderers.

Staplegrove Colts pipped Galmington Dragons Reserves 3-2 on the artificial surface at Castle School to keep the pressure up on Division Five's leading sides.

This was a classic encounter of youth versus experience, Grove only having three youngsters in their side, with the rest at the other end of their exulted careers.

Dragons fielded a youthful team still learning their trade at adult level.

It always looked a close game on paper and it was with some streetwise set piece play and a touch of naïve defending from both teams allowing Staplegrove to just come out on top 3-2.

Dragons started the livelier trying to keep the ball and play it around on the deck and happily soaking up the long balls which the home team kept lumping forward with little effect.

But loose marking allowed Grove striker Ian Bishop to sneak in at the back post from a Jason Quick cross and put his side ahead.

That seemed to give his side confidence and roles were reversed with them playing the better football and Galmington themselves then resorting to playing the ball in the air for an extended period.

Everything changed from a goal kick though when a lovely headed flick on by Dragons attacking midfielder Dave Brawn saw Danny Skyner spring the offside trap before coolly slotting past the keeper's outstretched left hand.

Galmington then took the lead from a free kick awarded wide on the left after Skyner had been upended by a Grove centre back desperate not to let him see goal again.

Jonny Limm delivered a wonderful curling ball to the back post which continued all the way unchallenged and untouched into the top right hand corner which the keeper failed to catch.

The linesman flagged for offside as three Dragons strikers had run forward before the ball was kicked and he considered them to then become active, but the referee decided that they were not interfering with play and allowed the goal.

After the break, Staplegrove came out again knocking the ball around well and equalised when a throw in was tamely allowed to bounce in the Dragons area and the visitors were too slow to react when Ian Bishop controlled with back to goal, swivelled and scored.

Grove then took the lead from another well worked approach, when Peter Horton was once more left unmarked at the back post to slot home the winner.
