RUGBY Club B hosted the Market C in Division A of the Bridgwater Town Skittles League and, despite starting with a 75, still lost the hand by three, which, if John Martin’s nine spare had of delivered, more could have pushed the lead to double figures.

The Market built a lead of 11 by the fifth hand before a resurgent Rugby Club found form and, after a 17-flopper from Ashley Saunders, and a 15- spare from Jason Russ, re-took the lead by one.

Rugby Club won the final hand to lead by 10 come the end.

In Division B, Cross Rifles A travelled to St John’s Street to play the Bunch of Grapes A.

They were in no mood to give away points, only losing pins as they dropped into the 50s during the middle three hands. However, by this time they had a comfortable cushion and, with the Rifles struggling for spares, there was no way the target of 90 was to be matched. Bunch won by 29.

The Sydenham Centre played host to a derby game between the struggling A team and the B team in Division C.

A respectable 64 opener was recorded which the ‘visiting’ B team surged past after hitting three small spares to the A team’s one.

Sydenham B finished their alley time hitting another mid-70, netting a lead of 14 going into the third hand.

Sydenham A pulled a single on the third hand and posted a 67 for the fourth hand, which, surprisingly, levelled the game after a disastrous 54 from the B team.

With the game tied, Sydenham A had a second chance to dominate and, after winning the fifth hand, all was going to plan.

The B team had other ideas and set about building an 80s hand to regain the lead.

Not to be outdone, the A team hit an 88 of their own, setting a target of 87 to win which, despite three spares in the hand, was not achieved, giving the win the A team.

In Division D, Cobblestones B played at the Duke this week against the B team. The visitors won the opening three hands before a good hand from the home Side levelled the game.

However, the Cobblestones dug deep and started to build a lead again.

A winning hand of 47 was the target set by the home side, which was easily managed by the Cobblestones to take another three points.
