BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey is still hoping for a top-ten finish in the Calor League South & West as his side head into an important festive period.

Reflecting on the season so far, Fey judged his side’s results as ‘above expectations’ but admitted there was still plenty of room for improvement.

He said: “When I took over, we had a lot of players from the reserves and I knew I had to bring in a lot of players. I didn’t expect us to win seven out of seven pre-season games and go the first 18 games without losing.

“Then we had the Bath game in the FA Cup, in front of the biggest crowd in a few years. We have played 33 games so far and are still floating around the top ten, which is better than I thought we would do when I took over.

“I’m still hopeful of a top ten finish, but anything better than last year’s finish is a bonus.”

The Robins currently sit in 11th place in the league, level on points with rivals Taunton Town–- having taken 29 points from their opening 20 games.

Fey believes this season should act as a learning curve for his time and the club as a whole following a difficult few seasons – but focusing on the positives, the manager praised the performances of top scorer Joe Bushin, who has already netted 19 times.

He said: “We have Bushin on 19 goals already and I don’t think Bridgwater have ever had a goal scorer to score more than 19 in a season, so that’s a massive plus.

“We generated a lot of money in the cup runs and played teams like Bath, Weymouth and Truro.

“I would like to thanks the supporters – the support home and away has been nothing but remarkable and I hope they carry on coming in their numbers.”

Town travel to Wimborne Town on Boxing Day, before welcoming Cirencester Town to Fairfax Park just two days later (December 28), both 3pm ko.
