RUGBY Club B visited the Squib to play the B team in Division A of the Bridgwater Town Skittles League and the home side started with a 71, helped by a spare from Mike Taylor.

Rugby Club’s Jon Aherne also hit a spare, but his side dropped three pins on the first hand followed by a further 10 on the second, after Scott Collard bagged his 16 spare.

Rugby Club took their chances, pulling pins on every hand and the Squib didn't get a spare but steadily the lead built resulting in a win by 10, which would have been larger if it were not for Tim Upham’s final hand 16 for the visitors.

In Division B, Market C hosted the Bunch of Grapes, and opened with a 76, which included a 16 flopper from Kevin Cornell. Bunch failing to get a spare and dropped 13 in their opening hand, but filled their boots in the second hand to pull eight and put themselves back in the game.

Bunch led for the middle three hands after an 85 hand in the third helped by a 17 flopper from Malcolm Dennison. Come the penultimate hand, after John Knight hit an 18 flopper, the lead was reduced to one for the Bunch, before a poor final hand allowed the Market C to win by five.

River Parrett A hosted Division C leaders West India A, who appeared to connect with the alley immediately, and rapidly built a lead, stealing single-pin hauls on each of the hands until, by the final hand, they only required a 46 to win.

The game was lacking in spares with only three being hit all game, two in the last hand from the home side pulling them 11 pins but the earlier haul had still left a 12-pin cushion for the visitors.

In Division D, the Sportsman B played host to Castle Club B in a very closely-fought game including two tied hands, and a lead for the visitors of never more than 11.

The visitors matched the home side in the spares hit, however two of the three were 10s, but more consistent picking of loose pins resulted in an eigh-pin win for the away side.
