THE top four teams all won on week ten in Division 1 of the Bridgwater Town Ladies Skittles League.

Fourth place Blake Hall A won at home against bottom club Commercial Inn B by 17 pins with Mary Hart (64) highest score on the alley for the home side.

Third place Cross Rifles A won a close match away to last yea’rs Champions Market D; they pulled one on the first hand and were never caught and hung on to win by five. Top score was Di Austin (66) for the Market and for the Rifles Joy Grandfield (71), who hit the highest individual score of the week.

Jenny Garfield 61 starred for Market A as they kept up their challenge for honours winning at Crown Inn A. They pulled 19 on the first hand the home team pulled back to 12 down but the visitors finished the stronger to win by 20.

League leaders Market C were 24 up at home after four hands but visitors Blake Hall B fought back to 11 down but did not have enough fire power to catch the league leaders who are having their best season since earning promotion to the top Division. Sue Duddridge (66) topped for the home side and Jo Marshall (68) for Blake Hall.

Crown Inn B won away by 24 at GWR Club A, while Castle Club A won a close encounter with second bottom club White Hart B four.

Elaine Smith 69 was top score in the Division 2. for the New Foresters B who were too strong away to the Blake Arms A winning by 16 to move away from the relegation zone.

Pace-setters Sydenham Centre A won by 28 at second bottom Bridgwater Squib A. Sue Mills 64 topped for the Fireworks and Vikki Rees highest for the Centre. Blake Arms B kept up their push for the top winning a close fought match away to bottom club Commercial Inn A who have still to win a game. the only merit score on the ally Teresa Grant for the Blake Arms.

Lions Club B’s bid for an early return to the top division faltered after they lost at home by seven to lowly GWR Club B.

Carol Stoodley 61 top scored for the toothless Lions.

Cross Rifles B are now joint second after winning at home against Market B by 50.

New Foresters A were six pins up with a hand to go and hit 49 leaving visitors, Division 3 leaders Lions Club A 56 to win.

They hit 58 to win by three thanks to top scorer Ann Smith 61 who had a 13 spare.

Dee Buttle (70) was highest in the Division, starring for the Woodchoppers.

The mid-table clash at the Sydenham Centre B versus The Sportsman saw the home team win by a never-headed 17, despite the visitors pulling pins on the last three hands. Andrea Vickery (62) and Vicky Modley (61) topped for the Centre and G.

Clarke (61) was best for the Sportsman.

Second-placed Bunch Of Grapes lost only one hand as they won at the bottom club Lime Kiln by 42, while third-placed British Flag A won at West India House after pulling eight on the last hand to win by six after being behind for the whole of the game.

Pulling pins on the three final hands, Bird In Hand won at British Flag B in a battle between two teams in the lower parts of the division.
