Bridgwater College's Men's Elite Football Development Squad 2 - 1 Yeovil College.
BRIDGWATER College Men's Elite Football Development Squad has continued their undefeated start to the season an away win over their Yeovil counterparts.
Bridgwater started the quickest, with the forward line of Matt Connick, Sam Anthony and Lee Villis providing width and pace in attack. Norris, in goal for Yeovil, had to make two outstanding saves from an overhead kick from Connick and from Anthony at the far post.
The second half saw Lewis Hembury and Luke Taylor continuing to race down both flanks from full back, but a stubborn Yeovil defence nullified initial attacks in the first 20 minutes until a neat linked up play from Horton and Chamberlain released Connick free from his marker and he duly lobbed the advancing Norris to ensure a one nil lead to Bridgwater.
Yeovil responded almost immediately when a speculative clearance up field was allowed to bounce and Barrett levelled the score.
The last ten minutes saw Bridgwater's Pedro Caverlerho, Alex Male and Ben Robinson replace Anthony, Connick and Horton, and fresher legs ensured Bridgwater's counter attacks had a renewed zip about them.
Good work from Male forced a corner with five minutes remaining, and saw an immaculate set piece from Hembury come to fruition with Chamberlain stealing a yard from his marker to head home a well-deserved winner in the 85th minute.
Jason Gunningham, Head of Sport and Academy Director for Men's football said, “This was a terrific result away from home for the players as Yeovil were hard to break down at times. We found ourselves in front of an inspired goal keeper on the day, which at times proved frustrating for the players, but it did ensure our attacking play had to be more imaginative to break the deadlock.”
