Robins' Reserves progress in County Cup
9:00am Monday 9th September 2013 in Sport
BRIDGWATER Town Reserves progressed into the second round of the Somerset Senior Cup with a 4-2 victory over Hengrove on Saturday.
Goals from Ian Bellinger, Gerry Berry and Carl Jones (2), sealed their place in the next round, after the Robins had come from 1-0 down.
A moment of madness in the Bridgwater defence allowed Hengrove to take the lead against the run of play, but Ian Bellinger levelled things up with a clinical finish.
Berry added a second when his shot from the edge of the penalty area was palmed on to the post and into the net.
Hengrove were then awarded a penalty when Paul Goss brought down a Hengrove attacker in the area. The spot kick was converted and Hengrove were back on level terms.
From here though, Carl Jones took over. Jones put Bridgwater back in front with neat finish, before adding a fourth not long after.
Substitute Alex Male could have made it five, but his shot was well-saved by the Hengrove keeper.
Bridgwater kept possession well and saw the game out in comfortable fashion to record a well-earned victory.
