SOMERSET batsman Nick Compton has signed a new three-year contract with the club.
It comes after Warwickshire yesterday (August 21) put in a formal 28-day period of notice to sign England duo Compton, 30, and Somerset wicket-keeper Jos Buttler, 22.
Their contracts with Somerset run out this year, but the club is delighted to have secured the services of Compton for another three years.
Somerset’s director of cricket Dave Nosworthy said: “We are very pleased to have secured Nick again for a further period – he is one of the best players in the country and makes a huge contribution to the club, not just on the field of play, but also off it.”
Compton said: “I’ve enjoyed my three years with the club and feel settled by having such a great team and support network around me.
"I’m aware of interest from other clubs, but I’ve played some of my best cricket here and I’m grateful to the club and its members who have given me such great support.”
There is no definite news, however, on the future of talented Buttler who is England’s first-choice one-day international wicket-keeper.
