Charlie Attwood granted sports scholarship at Bridgwater College

SWIMMING sensation Charlie Attwood has been granted one of Bridgwater College’s new sports scholarships, which will help him continue competing at a national and international level.
Charlie, 15, from Bridgwater, will be joining Bridgwater College in September to study a BTEC in Business, but alongside his studies will be competing in swimming competitions regionally, nationally and internationally.
After qualifying for the British Championships earlier in the year, Charlie recently represented Team GB in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, Holland and surpassed all expectations by winning gold in the 100m breast stroke and bronze in the 200m.
The sports scholarship will be available throughout his College course and will provide him with vital financial support towards entry fees, training and transportation costs.
Charlie, formerly of Chilton Trinity School, is currently ranked number one in the country for his age group. He said: “The financial support offered by this scholarship will mean a lot - the cost of swimming competitively is really high, with a pair of trunks costing upwards of £150. It means I will definitely be able to continue competing at a high level, and hopefully get to the next Olympics.”
Luke Buckingham, Sports Development Manager and Head of Sports Academies at Bridgwater College said: “We are delighted to be supporting Charlie via our Sports Scholarship programme; he already has an impressive record of performances internationally and I have no doubt he’ll be a name to watch out for in the future.”
