THERE was one question everyone wanted an answer to when Somerset CCC held their annual press day – and that was how are they going to resolve the dilemma they find themselves in of having two England wicket-keepers, Jos Buttler and Craig Kieswetter, on their books.

New director of cricket Dave Nosworthy was first to tackle the question, shortly after he was introduced to the press ranks for the first time since taking up his post.

He said: “They are obviously Somerset men through and through and very passionate about the club and we are very excited that they are both in the mix for England.

“I have been in contact with both of them by virtual communication and I was able to touch base with them face to face over the weekend and got to sit down with them each and gauge where they are, and what they are wanting to do.

“I believe in opening it up and involving the players as much as possible, getting their feelings. I have chatted with Andy Flower and Ashley Giles as well so all avenues are open as to how we are going to move forward.”

Nosworthy added: “It’s a work in progress to be honest and there is no set decision as to how we are going to manage it. We will have a game plan in the next couple of weeks and we are dealing with it on a daily basis.

“The players are comfortable with it and with the open communication we have had within the group I think they have appreciated rather than not knowing where they stand themselves.”

Buttler said: “We have had discussions since Dave Nosworthy has arrived and its quite clear that we haven’t quite come to a solution yet but it is something that we are working on together to come to a solution that suits both of us.”
