Bridgwater Netball Club latest reports
JUPITER started tentatively on Saturday against Hovelands in a crunch top of the table game.
Both teams displayed great netball with the first quarter ending 13-11 to Hovelands. A positive team talk and tactical planning gave Jupiter a motivating boost with every player defending amazingly, turning over 9 of Hovelands attacks and ending the first half ahead by 7.
A constant strong team effort and great work rate enabled Jupiter to make many interceptions and capitalise on them throughout the second half, seeing them finish the game as 49-45 winners.
Somerset Premier
Saturn 36, Vivary 50
SATURN were against a strong Vivary side at Taunton on Saturday. Saturn started well, with the first quarter seeing excellent attacking play throughout the court, supported by hazel Hucker (WD), as they marginally trailed 9-10.
Vivary upped their game as the game progressed, but Saturn remained composed, with good all round play from Emma Reynolds (C). However, Vivary continued to stretch the lead.
Somerset Division 1
Neptune 27, Millfield 54
BRIDGWATER Neptune played their home fixture against Millfield on Saturday. The home side made an explosive start, giving the top of the league team a challenging first quarter. Lisa Phillips (WA) and Imogen Setter (C) worked well around the attacking circle, creating good triangles with the two shooters, Katy Cheese (GS) and Karis Holleron (GA).
Neptune made good use of the reset option, looking back to defenders Michelle Stone (WD) and Katie Chedzey (GD) to reset play, which gave them the opportunity to hold possession until the right pass into the attacking circle was on.
Millfield pulled away in the second half despite a fantastic effort from GK Morgan Middleton, who battled tirelessly to prevent the opposing GS from receiving a pass in their attacking circle. Despite playing some great netball, Neptune could not catch up, as Millfield went on to win.
Somerset Division 3
Mercury 46, Priory 28
MERCURY played Priory with a winning attitude right from the start. The first quarter started really strongly, with great defending from Bex Dunn and Chloe Berry, as Mercury led 9-3.
Throughout the second quarter there was particularly strong attacking play from Elaine Bartlett and Lily Rowland, whose accurate feeding into the circle allowed for shots to be put away by Kayleigh Haste and Norah Lewis.
Chloe Trout positioned herself well, which led to some great interceptions. With Mercury leading 22-12, changes were made in the third period, as Lily Wicks took the centre position and Lily Rowland moved to WD.
This strengthened the team overall and reduced Priory’s scoring opportunities. Mercury carried a 33-12 lead into the fourth quarter as the team continued to play well in both attack and defence, increasing their lead to win the game.
