Somerset Senior Cup, semi-final
Middlezoy Rovers 1, Wincanton Town 7
MIDDLEZOY crashed out of the Somerset Senior Cup at the hands of Wincanton despite taking an early lead.
On 45 seconds, when a Dan Luce corner found its way directly into the Wincanton goal, the early signs were that the home side would be more than a match for their Dorset County Premier League opponents.
But in the seventh minute Wincanton drew level with a powerful header.
Middlezoy’s hopes of staying in the game were quickly extinguished by a very well-organised and dangerous Wincanton side.
The visitors had stormed to a 3-1 lead inside half an hour and that was the end of the first half action.
The visitors started the second half in the same fashion and on 47 minutes it was 4-1 and game over.
A further three goals followed, securing a spot in the final for Wincanton.
MIDDLEZOY say farewell to centre back Shaun Turner this week after five excellent seasons at the club and club officials have thanked him for his service.
On Saturday (March 9) Middlezoy share a Division Two cup quarter-final and a top two clash away to Congresbury.
