Despite the absence of key individuals, Bridgwater looked to play from the back and youngster Ben Robinson, was tasked with controlling the midfield.

The team worked well together and Bridgwater’s Gary Berry was relentless in trying to get the side going. This resulted in a beautifully delivered corner from full-back Lewis Hembery which was headed into the goal by Matt Hurley.

The second-half started and saw South Devon equalise, putting the pressure on Bridgwater who needed the winners’ three points to keep up with the league leaders, Exeter. The team stepped up their game and Gary Berry set up Adam Long to score a goal and, crucially, the much-needed three points.

Adam Long said: “This was a great win for us. We have been training really hard the last couple of weeks and I’m glad we, as a group, pulled through. I’d like to dedicate my goal to Matt Hurley, who got injured during the game; we all hope he can be back playing very soon.”
