Somerset’s Craig Overton made an impressive debut for the England Lions on their tour of Australia even though he ended up on the losing side.
Victoria, who included Cameron White, David Hussey and Chris Rogers in their line up, opted to bat first after winning the toss in Melbourne.
The Lions scored 225-8 from their 50 overs thanks largely to 86 from Gary Ballance and 43 from James Vance.
Overton, batting at No8, weighed in with a useful19 from 26 balls including one four and a six before he was bowled by Darren Pattinson.
Victoria replied with 227-2 off 36.1 overs, Rob Quiney making 122 and Peter Hanscomb an unbeaten 67.
Overton captured both of the wickets to fall to finish with the impressive figures of 2-30 from his eight overs.
The Lions are next in action when they face a Victoria XI in Melbourne on Monday.
